Hiking is good for you and broadens our horizons: These enriching experiences are made possible by Worldwide Hiking, the specialist for hiking adventure travel. In its guided hiking tours, the organizer accompanies its guests to impressive natural sites in new countries and enables intensive encounters with other cultures.

Treating people, animals and nature with respect is always a matter of course. Sustainability and a sensitive approach to the environment are not presented with a raised index finger, but conveyed through authentic experiences with "self-awareness value".

For example, hikers learn more about the importance of honey bees on their forays through Romania, Montenegro or Madeira - the insect is one of the most important pillars of the food production chain.

May 20, 2022: World Bee Day

The importance of bees as pollinators for the biodiversity of our plant world and their associated key role in food security is fundamental for humanity. With World Bee Day, the General Assembly of the United Nations is also underscoring the awareness of the decline in the global bee population and the urgent need to protect bees. Around 80 percent of flowering plants depend on pollination by bees and other insects. While the endangered wild bees consume the nectar immediately, honey bees collect both the pollen and the nectar and use them to produce honey.

Madeira - a paradise for flower lovers, hikers and bees

On Madeira, nature feels completely at home: the pleasantly mild climate allows flowers and plants to sprout in abundance and also gives the Atlantic island the nickname "flower island". Not only friends of flora and fauna are attracted to the Portuguese Atlantic island, Madeira is also a popular travel destination for hikers. One of the classics here is the “Madeira à la Christa” hiking tour – which can be booked for one or two weeks. A varied hiking experience with guided tours along levadas and coasts.

“The lush gardens of Quinta dos Artistas are home to around 700.000 honey bees. We pay attention to natural management and do not use any sprays," emphasizes host Gerald. The honey on Maderia is characterized by a mix of flowers, shrubs, fruit and vegetables - from the Quinta's large garden. The "Quinta dos Artistas" is the sustainable showcase project on Madeira and is the only company on the island to carry the Green Key seal of approval for sustainable and environmentally conscious management.

Romania and Bulgaria - forests, meadows and mountains - a natural paradise

Where wolves and bears say good night and Count Dracula stayed at his castle, hikers go on a journey of discovery. Romania is an often underestimated, but versatile and exciting hiking destination with small medieval towns and untouched natural landscapes - be it in Transylvania or in the Southern Carpathians.

Guide Engelbert has returned to his homeland after many years in Germany. He accompanies the “Weltwandern” group on their one-week hiking trip through the Cernatal and Retezat national parks, where he shows his “undiscovered Southern Carpathians” and their scenic facets on varied day tours. He lovingly renovated his grandfather's farm in Alzen. Since 2020 he has also been the master of 16 bee colonies. “I harvested 140 kilos of honey myself last year. Beekeeping is my passion, I'm still learning a lot about bees and I'm happy to share my experiences with my guests," enthuses Engelbert.

Leo's bees are buzzing in Transylvania. The host family is one of the pioneers of eco-tourism in Romania - they recognized the importance of regional agriculture early on and integrated it into the sustainable concept of their Pension Villa Hermani. On the one-week tour "Untouched Nature & Transylvanian Cities" the Worldwide Hiking Group is also a guest here. It's blooming and thriving everywhere - the Piatra Craiului National Park is ideal feel-good terrain for hikers and also for Leo's bees. Guide Leo is happy to taste the self-produced honey as part of an information chat with his guests about the insects to be protected.

The diverse Bulgarian mountains with their crystal-clear mountain lakes and the hilly landscape of the Rhodopes never cease to amaze global hiking groups. While the hiking group, accompanied by Bilyana, roams the blooming meadows, they discover orchids or the orange sparks of nailwort - in some places the country is a summer Sunday backdrop. A true paradise for wild bees and insects - but also for hikers! The paths of the impressive journey "Icons, Mountain Lakes & Villages of the Rhodopes" also lead through small villages and Rila monasteries.

Montenegro - Bees in the vineyard and vegetable garden of Lake Scarda

Wander around the world guests will also experience a lot of fauna and flora on their journey through Montenegro. Because on the route of "pleasure hiking on easy paths" or "wild beauty" you will find the Skadarsee National Park - with 270 bird species one of the largest bird sanctuaries in Europe. Pelicans, herons and eagles live side by side with wild bees and other animals. The national park is also home to hostess Angelika, who runs a winery together with her family in the midst of this beautiful natural idyll. Honey bees are buzzing all over the vineyard. If hikers are guests, they are gladly invited to the table and delicious wines from the wine cellar and specialties from the regional cuisine are served.
