The Boeing 717-200 operated by Delta Air Lines, registration N925AT, suffered a fuel leak in the right wing area on March 14, 2023 during takeoff or climb. The pilots decided to return to Charlotte.

The medium-haul jet should have flown from Charlotte to Detroit under flight number DL2481. However, shortly after take-off it was found that the tank was obviously not leak-proof. The Boeing 717-200 lost a not inconsiderable amount of fuel in the area of the right wing.

The pilots quickly recognized the problem and decided to cancel the flight to Detroit immediately. A safety landing at Charlotte Airport was successfully completed. All passengers and crew were able to exit the Boeing 717-200 safely.

Fuel leaks are generally considered to be problematic, as they can also lead to dangerous fires. In this specific case, however, a fire broke out. The video embedded below shows that the leak was clearly visible during the flight. Delta Air Lines is the world's largest operator of the Boeing 717 aircraft.
