This year around 20 million passengers are said to have been affected by flight irregularities. According to statistics from Airhelp, the airports in Brussels, Paris-CDG, Eindhoven and Düsseldorf were particularly late.

The last-mentioned airport is said to have made it fourth on the negative list. According to Airhelp, around 490.000 passengers are said to have been affected. In 2019, the proportion of "problem flights" is said to have been higher, but the number of passengers was also significantly higher.

The causes of the delays are extremely different. Mostly, however, these are homemade by airlines and their service providers as well as airports. There is definitely a shortage of staff at many airports, but also at the airlines. In the course of Corona too many employees had been cut or many have reoriented themselves due to short-time working in other industries.

Recently, the Berlin-Brandenburg Airport has come into public attention, because although only a few passengers use the airport compared to the time "before Corona", it is repeatedly closed long waiting times and chaotic conditions. But also smaller airports like Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden have already hit the headlines this year, because the regional council did not ensure that sufficient personnel were provided at the security checkpoint. The result: only one line open and many travelers have missed their flights.

According to Airhelp, Ireland and the United Kingdom, for example, are said to have gone much better. The proportion of problem flights in these two countries has so far been between four and six percent. This could also be related to the fact that Ireland and the UK opened up to international travel relatively late.
