The travel group Tui is restructuring the group management with effect from January 1, 2021. The board of directors approved the changes on Tuesday. Sebastian Ebel, who is currently also a member of the control committee of the airline Tuifly, will head the finance department.

The current CFO, Birgit Conix, will leave the company at the end of the year. The Belgian told the supervisory board in the summer that she would not extend her expiring contract. According to the Tui announcement, however, an orderly handover to their successor is ensured.

“I would like to thank Birgit Conix for her commitment in difficult times. She achieved a lot for Tui and put financing and liquidity on a solid foundation during the crisis. Sebastian Ebel is a very experienced finance manager who has also successfully managed large operating companies. Together we faced many common challenges. I look forward to having him by my side as CFO in the future. In Peter Krüger's board department, we are bundling responsibility for our capital-intensive assets as well as strategy and M&A, thus creating the basis for adapting our investment strategy to the new framework conditions in the coming years. In the extended area of Erik Friemuth, we want to achieve synergies in the future, especially in sales and customer care, while strengthening the customer experience with innovative solutions and outstanding products. Even before the pandemic, experiences and activities were a rapidly growing market segment with considerable potential for the TUI. With David Schelp, the division will in future be represented on the Group Executive Committee. The entire tourism sector is still in an unprecedented crisis - a lot will have changed after the pandemic. With the new line-up of the TUI management team, we are already in the best possible position to get started after the pandemic, ”explains CEO Fritz Joussen.

Peter Krüger will take over a completely new board department in which the central assets of the group - hotel and cruise holdings and the airlines - as well as his previous area of responsibility M&A will be bundled. The manager has been a member of the so-called Group Executive Committee since 2018.

In the course of the realignment, Erik Friemuth's portfolio in the Group Executive Committee will be significantly expanded. In the future, in addition to marketing and the Group's own hotel brands (Tui Blue, Robinson, Tui Magic Life), he will also be responsible for the group for sales and customer service. The digital and growth segment Tui Musement will in future be represented directly on the Group Executive Committee with its CEO David Schelp.

From January 1, 2021, Sebastian Ebel, Peter Krüger, Erik Friemuth and David Schelp will continue to belong to the newly tailored Group Executive Committee under the leadership of Fritz Joussen: David Burling, Member of the Management Board and CEO Markets, Dr. Elke Eller, member of the HR / Labor Director, Frank Rosenberger, member of the IT and Future Markets board, as well as Elie Bruyninckx, member of the Group Executive Committee CEO Western Region, Thomas Ellerbeck, member of the Group Executive Committee Corporate, External Affairs & Sustainability and Dr . Hilka Schneider, member of the Group Executive Committee Legal, Board Office & Compliance.

“I am sure that in the new structure of the Group Executive Committee under the leadership of Fritz Joussen, we will be ideally positioned to master the consequences of the pandemic and lead TUI to success again. On behalf of the entire Supervisory Board, I would like to thank Birgit Conix very much for her important contribution to the development of the company in recent years. From the flight ban for the Boeing 737MAX to the pandemic, it was not an easy year. All the more, I appreciate your great commitment and your performance. With Sebastian Ebel, we were able to find a successor who can fill the new task in the best possible way from day one. This is of enormous importance, especially in a continuously challenging environment. In the course of the realignment, we have combined strategy and M&A with responsibility for central assets in hotels, cruises and aviation in one board area. With Peter Krüger, a manager from the group will also be appointed for this board department. His experience in the financial sector and at TUI will accelerate the transformation of the group initiated by the Supervisory Board and Executive Board, ”said Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Tui AG.
