The aviation industry does not stand still - and so the TUI Group is also continuing to expand its fleet in order to meet the ever-growing demands of passengers. In a new partnership with the international aircraft leasing company BOC Aviation, the contract for the delivery of 14 Boeing 737 Max 8 was recently concluded. These aircraft are to be delivered to the various subsidiaries of the TUI Group between 2025 and 2026 and are part of a comprehensive fleet renewal.

The TUI Group, one of the world's leading tourism companies, operates through a number of subsidiaries in various European markets, including the airlines TUI Fly in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway, and TUI Airways in the UK. The current agreement with BOC Aviation will help complement the already existing fleet of more than 40 Boeing 737 Max aircraft. These aircraft are a significant part of TUI's aviation fleet, which is known for using modern and efficient aircraft.

Steven Townend, Chief Executive Officer of BOC Aviation, commented on the partnership: “With this financing, we are once again working with our existing customer TUI as it builds its fleet of new generation aircraft.” This statement highlights the close cooperation and mutual trust between the two companies, which is based on successful business relationships.

A look at BOC Aviation and its role as a leasing company

Since its inception, BOC Aviation has grown into a globally significant provider of aircraft leasing services. Headquartered in Singapore and with a presence in cities such as Dublin, London, New York and Tianjin, the company manages an impressive fleet of 693 aircraft leased to 93 airlines in 48 countries and regions worldwide. The company is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and offers a wide range of leasing options, from direct delivery of new aircraft to managing existing fleets.

The agreement with TUI is a strategic step to strengthen the company's investment and revenue pipeline. Townend added that the delivery of these aircraft over the next two years will make a decisive contribution to this. The use of the Boeing 737 Max 8, equipped with the environmentally friendly CFM LEAP-1B engines, is a clear indication of the efforts to integrate modern and powerful aircraft that offer passengers more comfort and efficiency.

TUI: A History of Innovation and Expansion

The TUI Group has a long and rich history. When TUI Airways' predecessor, Britannia Airways, took delivery of the first Boeing 1968 in Europe in 737, it ushered in a new era of commercial air travel in Europe. This history continues, as TUI is now one of the largest tourism brands in the world, comprising over 1.600 travel agencies, online booking portals, 15 cruise ships and a hotel group with more than 400 establishments. The company offers not only package holidays, but also tailor-made holiday experiences and a variety of flight connections to meet travellers' needs.

With the planned expansion of its aircraft fleet with the new Boeing 737 Max 8, TUI is building on its many years of experience and ensuring an efficient and cost-effective expansion of its aviation capacity. This strategy is crucial to remaining competitive and offering passengers a modern travel experience.

The importance of the Boeing 737 Max 8 for aviation

The Boeing 737 Max 8 is a younger member of the widely used 737 series and features improved engines and optimized aerodynamics, resulting in greater fuel efficiency. These new models not only offer improved range and reduced operating costs, but also increased passenger comfort through improved cabin design. The new CFM LEAP-1B engines fitted to these aircraft help reduce fuel consumption and emissions, making them particularly attractive to airlines looking to modernize their fleets.

The prospects for the future

With the agreement on the new leasing contracts, BOC Aviation is setting another milestone in its strategy to expand its cooperation with leading airlines. TUI, in turn, shows that the company is willing to invest in modern flight technology to improve the quality and efficiency of its service, even in times of economic uncertainty.

How this partnership will impact the competitive landscape remains an interesting question, but it is clear that TUI and BOC Aviation are on the right track to consolidate their position in the aviation industry and offer their passengers an enhanced travel experience.
