The travel group Tui was able to increase sales by 2023 percent to 15 billion euros in the first quarter of the current financial year (October to December 4,3). The group's services were used by around 3,5 million travelers.
For the first time in a long time, the first quarter of the financial year was positive. The listed group can report an adjusted EBIT of six million euros. Traditionally this is negative due to the weaker winter season. Company boss Sebastian Ebel explains that the measures introduced would bear fruit and that it would therefore be possible to stay in the black.
At the same time, Tui may also have benefited from being able to impose higher prices on customers. These were increased by an average of four percent. When it comes to bookings, the volume increased by eight percent. Ebel predicts that the current financial year will end with an increase of at least 25 percent in terms of operating results.
If you look at the individual business areas, cruises stand out. In this segment, the average rates rose by 17 percent to 204 euros. However, fewer travelers were on board, with a decline from 2,4 million to 2,3 million passenger days compared to the previous period. In general, the Tui Group was also able to make gains in its own-operated hotels.
The tour operators in Austria, Germany, Poland and Switzerland collectively recorded an increase of 1,3 million euros in the first quarter of the current financial year. For comparison: a year earlier, this segment was deeply in the red with a loss of 29 million euros. Tui boss Ebel expects that holidays in the summer of 2024 will be around four percent more expensive on average. This means that inflation should be at the level of the current winter period of 2023/24. So far the booking volume is around eight percent higher than at the same time last year.
