There is a change in leadership at the German flight attendant union UFO. The chairman Daniel Flohr announced his retirement from the top and even wants to leave the employee representatives by June 30, 2021 at the latest.

"Air traffic has been hit particularly hard by the Corona crisis, we have to keep our eyes on the interests of our members. However, we are again on the verge of an internal power struggle, which is sparked, among other things, by my person. Therefore, I would like to help UFO to concentrate fully on their tasks again. The Lufthansa Group also wants to cut thousands of jobs, so UFO has to take care of that - not internal trench warfare, ”explains Flohr.

In 2019, Flohr, as vice-boss, fended off an existential attack by the Lufthansa Group on the flight attendant union together with a rump team. Together with the negotiating team of former chairman Nicoley Baublies, he even managed to get UFO to be the first union to conclude a crisis collective agreement with a volume of 500 million euros with the group in June of this year.

“The effects of Corona will be with us for a long time, but with the TV crisis, a large part of the cabin is secured for the time being, so that the change in leadership does not come at an inopportune time. We can use this security to realign UFO in terms of membership and to prepare for the tasks ahead. After the years of political unrest around UFO, there is now both a desire for other heads at the top and for a different type of union work. In the coming months, we will have to guarantee the long-term success of the UFO with our personnel decisions, ”concluded Flohr.
