The Avia Solutions Group will launch an offshoot in the United Kingdom in spring 2024 under the name Ascend Airways. This will initially take off with two Boeing 737s. The first aircraft, the G-HODL, has now been taken over.
It is a Boeing 737-800 that was previously operated by Klasjet as LY-BUS. The medium-haul jet was originally delivered to Pegasus Airlines in 2011. Ascend Airways explained that when operations begin, they will station one aircraft each at London-Gatwick and London-Southend.
At the helm of the new airline is Alastair Willson, who previously served as managing director of competitor Titan Airways. He announced that Ascend Airways would build a fleet of around 20 aircraft within three years. These should generally be used for ACMI and charter orders. The founding of the UK branch also has a strategic background, because due to Brexit, some orders require an AOC issued by the United Kingdom. To date, the Avia Solutions Group does not have its own airline in the UK, but does have numerous flight operations in the European Union.
The second aircraft that the new carrier will add to its fleet is a Boeing 737-Max-8, built in 2022. However, no information was yet available about the identity of the aircraft. By the way, Ascend Airways is not a new company. Avia Solutions Group has acquired Synergy Aviaiton and is transforming the company into an ACMI and charter flight provider. Due to the takeover, the time-consuming process of obtaining AOC and operating license was saved because the certificates are already available.
