The United Kingdom intends to relax entry requirements from mid-December 2020. In the future, you should be able to free yourself from quarantine after five days using a PCR test. So far, the island nation has been isolated from people who come from “risk areas”.

The British Minister of Transport Grant Shapps announced that there is a possibility that the quarantine can be shortened in the future. However, you have to pay the costs for the PCR test yourself. In the UK, submitting a negative result does not release you from commencing segregation. Absurdly, this can be ended prematurely by leaving the country.

The planned new regulation is obviously geared towards Germany, because this state defines pretty much all its neighbors as a “risk area” and requires a quarantine when entering the country. If a negative PCR test is presented, this takes five days (according to current information, however, this is not accepted in the UK). Alternatively, you have to be in isolation for ten days, but can be tested after five days at your own expense. If the PCR is negative, the quarantine is over.
