The corona pandemic brought a remarkable increase in domestic transport services in Ukraine. Significantly more providers are active in domestic traffic from both Borispil Airport and Kiev (Zhulyany) than before the pandemic.
The most frequently served route is between the capital and Lviv. This is served by four airlines, which together offer 39 weekly rotations. Windrose Airlines flies from Borispil Airport, while its competitors Air Ocean Airlines, Motor Sich Airlines and Bees Airline rely on the inner-city Kiev (Zhuliany) Airport.
The Black Sea city of Odessa is number two with 26 domestic rotations. This city is also served by four carriers from the capital. These are Air Ocean Airlines, Motor Sich Airlines and Bees Airline, all of which use Kiev (Zhuliany) Airport, and Windrose, which flies from Borispil.
The third place is taken by the domestic route between Borispil and Dnipro. This is currently served exclusively by Windrose. Up to 25 weekly circulations are offered.
Competition in Zhulyany affects Borispil
There is also competition on other routes, but these are not served as frequently as the routes mentioned in the previous paragraphs. For example, Motor Sich Airlines and Air Ocean Airlines are engaged in a price war between Kiev-Zhuliany and Zaporizhia. Remarkable: They work together on the route to Chernivtsi, because Motor Sich Airline flies on this routes as part of a wet lease agreement for Air Ocean Airlines.
Increasing competition between Bees Airline, Motor Sich Airlines and Air Ocean Airlines at Kyiv Zhuliany Airport has meanwhile led to low-cost carrier SkyUp Airlines withdrawing from domestic routes where there is a lot of competition. A prime example of this is Borispil-Odessa.
