The Ukrainian Motor Sich Airlines could play a larger role in future aviation strategy. We are currently in talks with the state company Ukroboronprom, which should lead to the expansion of the regional network. It is still unclear whether Motor Sich Airlines should provide feeder services for the planned new state carrier.
Ukroboronprom is Antonov's parent company. Sales at this aircraft manufacturer have been stalling for a number of years, which is why the government is repeatedly considering making locally-produced machines more palatable to domestic airlines by means of cheaper leasing rates and premiums.
Local media reports that Motor Sich Airlines will lease some used An-140s. They already have a single machine of this type. This has the registration UR-14005 and is used from Zaporozhye and Kiev. Motor Sich Airlines is known far beyond its borders for the use of outdated aircraft.
The government of Ukraine intends to set up a new state airline. This has no connection with Ukraine International, because this provider wants to stand up to it. The short- and medium-haul fleet should, if possible, consist exclusively of Antonov. On long-haul routes, it has not yet been decided whether to lease Boeing or Airbus jets. Motor Sich Airlines could take over some regional routes as a feeder. The home base of the new state airline is also open, because in addition to Kiev-Borispil, the inner-city Kiev-Schuljany-Airport should also be in the running. From the latter, Motor Sich already offers a number of domestic destinations.
