With the HA-LHU, the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air has an Airbus A330-200F freighter in its fleet. This is operated on behalf of the Hungarian government and could soon be used for cargo flights to the United States of America.

At the beginning of the corona pandemic, it became apparent in Hungary that the fact that they did not have their own widebody freighters was problematic. The government therefore organized a used A330F to be operated by Wizz Air on behalf of the state. The economic risk of operation therefore does not lie with the operator, but with the customer, i.e. the state.

The freighter is unique in the Wizz Air fleet because it wears livery, which differs completely from that of all other aircraft and it is the only widebody full freighter that Wizz Air Hungary has on the AOC. So far, the machine has mainly been used to fly quick tests, masks and the like from China to Hungary.

Now it should also go in the direction of the United States of America. The company confirmed to CH-Aviation.com: “Wizz Air confirms that it has filed an application in the United States for a foreign air carrier license for the Hungarian government-owned and operated A330 cargo aircraft. The purpose of this request is to secure all possible future commercial cargo operations to and from the United States."
