United Airlines is the first US airline to announce the resumption of flights to/from Tel Aviv. The first round trips from New York-Newark will include a stopover in Munich.
From March 2, 2024, the flight will initially set course for Tel Aviv again from Newark. First you will make a stopover at the German airport in Munich. The reason for this is to ensure that all service providers are “ready to support non-stop service to and from Newark”. The next flight is scheduled to take place on March 4, 2024. The company said there are no Tel Aviv flights scheduled for March 2 and 5, 2024.
From March 6, 2024, the Newark-Tel Aviv route will be served daily again. The stopovers in Munich, which are planned for March 2nd and 4th, 2024, will then be omitted, so that the route will then be flown non-stop again. “This is the first step toward resuming passenger and cargo travel and comes after tireless collaboration between safety experts and government officials, as well as the Air Line Pilots Association and the Association of Flight Attendants, to develop protocols to ensure our employees and customers stay safe and are well informed,” said company boss Scott Kirby, who said that if there was enough demand, flights per week could be increased to 2024 in May 14.
Before the war launched by Hamas, United Airlines also had nonstop flights to Tel Aviv from San Francisco, Washington and Chicago. These will be paused for a long time, as the company says they are not considering reactivation until autumn 2024. Other US airlines are largely cautious. American Airlines says that it would like to return to Tel Aviv from October 2024 at the earliest and Delta is examining a possible reactivation in May 2024. But nothing has been decided yet.
