In the Corona year, ailing airlines had to initiate many measures to reduce costs. So did United Airlines: The US carrier temporarily stopped accepting new pilots. Right now this will finally end up here. 

"We will start with around 300 pilots," United manager Bryan Quigley announced in a statement to the workforce, how aero.de reported. With the increasing corona vaccinations, the demand for travel is steadily increasing again, Quigley justified the decision. This enables the company to think more about the future again. 

United is the first major US airline to set the course for a comeback. However, it is only a small step back towards normal operation, from which the industry remains a long way off for the time being. Many United pilots are still working on a reduced roster, and since September 2020 alone, according to Quigley, almost 1000 have retired or left the company voluntarily.
