The low-cost airline Ryanair is facing a multi-day strike in Spain immediately before the main season. The USO and SITCPLA unions are jointly calling for a walkout and in a statement demanding that "decent working conditions be created for all staff".

The background is also that, according to the employee representatives, the Ryanair Group in Spain should not have a collective agreement for local staff. A deal has been reached with a small union, but the USO and ITCPLA do not recognize it and believe it would violate Spanish labor law. The airline counters that the collective bargaining agreement brought improvements for Spanish staff. The call to strike applies to the period from June 24 to July 2, 2022.

The Ryanair Group has numerous bases in Spain operated by Ryanair DAC, Malta Air and Lauda Europe. The latter carrier is threatened in July 2022 first flight attendant strike in company history. USO wants to call for this if the management does not respond to the demands of the employee representatives.

Should the announced strikes not be cancelled, Ryanair Group passengers to/from Spain will face significant delays and cancellations. Travelers should therefore regularly check the current status of their booking.
