On January 8, 2024, an incident occurred outside an Air Canada flight traveling from Toronto (Pearson) to Dubai. A passenger thought he had to open a door and fell out of the Boeing 777-300ER.
At first, boarding was quite routine. After boarding a passenger who preferred to go to the other end of the long-haul plane instead of going to his seat, everything changed. The unruly PAX opened a door and rushed out of the machine.
According to an Air Canada spokesman, the passenger suffered significant injuries and was immediately taken to hospital by emergency services. The exact extent of the injuries could not be disclosed due to a lack of knowledge about the medical condition. The hospital did not provide Air Canada with any relevant information. It is therefore certain that the man was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
The incident had unpleasant consequences for the 319 other travelers. For safety reasons, the machine first had to be checked by technicians. The twin-engine long-haul aircraft was only able to leave Toronto Pearson Airport after a six-hour delay.
The troublemaker will most likely face civil and criminal penalties under Canadian law. Both the police and Air Canada are still cautious about making statements in this regard, as regardless of the crime, medical care for the unruly PAX initially has a higher priority. An investigation has already been initiated and unruly PAX should be questioned by the police as soon as possible.
