USA: Many flight cancellations due to staff shortages

Not only in Europe, but also in the United States of America, many airlines and airports as well as their service providers are struggling with acute staff shortages. At the weekend, which was extended due to Independence Day, many connections failed or were severely delayed.

According to Flightaware.com, 587 flights were already canceled on Friday. Another 600 were added on Saturday and 100 more on Sunday. Furthermore, around 3.300 connections were severely delayed on Saturday alone.

A short-term improvement is not in sight. In the course of the pandemic, many airports and airlines have reduced staff on a large scale. This is now taking revenge, because the demand is significantly higher than the supply that the providers can carry out with the acute shortage of staff. Especially in the area of ground staff and flight attendants, many have reoriented themselves and are not even thinking of making a comeback in aviation.
