The airline Uzbekistan Airways wants to cut up to 50 percent of the workforce in order to be able to save costs. According to local media, a task force has already been set up to identify “redundant” employees.

A corresponding memo from management was made public and is the subject of controversial discussion in Uzbekistan. In this one can read, among other things, that the committee is to evaluate possibilities for reducing costs and the workforce. Furthermore, around 2021 percent of the 25 volume is expected for the summer of 2019.

As a result, around 30 to 50 percent of the staff is no longer needed. It is unclear exactly how many employees the carrier has. Up to 16.000 employees are rumored. The fleet currently consists of 36 aircraft, many of which have not been used for a long time due to the corona pandemic.
