Lufthansa is aiming for a de facto vaccination for its flying employees. Due to the lack of a legal basis, this cannot be ordered unilaterally in Germany, but is dependent on company agreements with the employee representatives.
A spokeswoman confirmed that negotiations are in progress with the staff representatives. The media officer did not say what status they are in at the moment. There is already a comparable company agreement on vaccinations against yellow fever.
The unilateral order of mandatory vaccination does not seem possible at the moment due to the legal situation. Since the first destinations now also require crews to prove that they have been vaccinated against Covid-19, the aim is de facto an obligation on the basis of a company agreement.
The subject of compulsory vaccination is generally discussed controversially, as the legal basis does not exist in many countries. Announced as the world's first airline cathay pacific, that all employees have to be vaccinated. United Airlines and Qantas followed a few weeks later. Announced in Europe Swiss as the first carrier that flight personnel must be vaccinated from October 15, 2021.
