A successful election meeting to set up a works council at the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings Discover took place yesterday in the Flörsheim town hall. A three-member electoral board could be elected to conduct the proper election.
“The candidate situation is good, so that all employee groups of the company on the ground and in the air can be represented in the works council. In terms of diversity, I am of course particularly pleased that female pilots also want to get involved in the work of the works council. After initial hesitation, the employer is now getting involved constructively in the process and we are optimistic that we will establish a successful company partnership on this basis," says Stefan Herth, President of the Cockpit Association.
"The laying of the foundation stone for a works council is no less than a milestone for the colleagues at Eurowings Discover," says Maximilian Kampka, tariff officer at the independent flight attendant organization. “The working conditions make co-determination sorely necessary,” adds Kampka.
With the positive news from Flörsheim, it should not be forgotten that a new works council was only established at German Airways around two weeks ago. At the airline, which was badly hit by the corona pandemic, the election for a works council from the cockpit and cabin was successfully completed on March 31 and the new body has started work.
Hintergrund:
Since May 1, 2019, a change in the law has also made it possible for crew members in German flight operations to set up a works council - they were previously exempt from the legal regulation and only had the opportunity to exercise their co-determination rights via a collective agreement for staff representation (TVPV). This change in the law goes back to a long political process to end the discrimination against flight crews in co-determination that existed until 2019.
