Cockpit Association: Drone owners are responsible for safety

Drones are increasingly landing under the Christmas tree. In a media release, the Cockpit Association urgently points out that the owners are responsible for safety during flight operations. Drones that weigh more than 250 grams are no longer considered toys.

For these, a drone driver's license, insurance and registration of the unmanned aerial vehicle are required. Certain legal rules apply to all drone flights. Compliance with these is the responsibility of the respective drone operator. There are significant risks, especially when operating larger and more powerful drones, and their operation is only permitted for users aged 16 and over.

"Drone operators are responsible for the safety of their devices during flight," says VC drone expert Daniel Niesler. “It is almost impossible for pilots in commercial aircraft and other manned aircraft to detect drones in the airspace in good time without the appropriate tools. Even small, privately used drones sometimes pose a risk, for example to low-flying helicopters used in rescue operations.”
