The ticket refund dilemma evidently did not remain without repercussions: The German Federal Aviation Office (LBA) imposed fines on airlines in 21 cases that did not reimburse the ticket costs of flights that were canceled due to corona in due time.

Last year the refund worked well. Because no airline had to dig into their pockets for a fine. However, details on the amount of the fines for the airlines concerned cannot be given. "We cannot provide any more detailed information on the amount of the fine, since the rights of those affected in the administrative offense procedure do not allow this," a spokesman for the authority told the Reuters. The decision on the amount of the fine is made “in each individual case, taking into account the severity and frequency of the violation found”.
