Passengers at BER can now reserve extra access to the security checkpoints: the airport company is offering all passengers the new BER Runway service.

This makes it possible to reserve a time slot online for separate access to the security checkpoints in Terminal 1 and to reduce any waiting times. The BER Runway service is free for all passengers. Access to the BER Runway can be reserved here. For the technical implementation of the project, including the software solutions, the airport company is working with the partner companies Copenhagen Optimization and CLEAR.

“With BER Runway we offer our passengers an attractive and at the same time free service. They can plan the duration of their stay at the airport more reliably and thus make their journey less stressful. BER Runway is also an important step on the way to further digitizing the processes at our airport. This will enable us to further optimize all processes in the interests of our passengers in the future," says Thomas Hoff Andersson, Managing Director Operations at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.

This is how the BER Runway works:

  • Reservations for the BER runway can be made on the website and in the BER app from 72 hours to one hour before departure for Schengen flights or from 72 hours to one and a half hours before departure for non-Schengen flights. Slots are offered in a time window of 60 to 360 minutes before departure. Flight number and email address must be provided when reserving a timeslot.
  • A time window can be selected at a fixed time every quarter of an hour. Access to the BER Runway is indicated in the terminal. It can be used from 10 minutes before or up to 10 minutes after the selected time. Reservation and boarding pass will be checked prior to access.
  • The airport company still recommends all passengers to be at the respective terminal 2,5 hours before departure. With BER Runway, however, the time required can be reduced and the time spent in the terminal can be better calculated. Passengers should note that they should allow sufficient time for check-in and baggage drop-off before accessing the BER runway.
  •  All runway passengers can also use the general entrances to the security check despite reservations. You will then be asked to cancel the reservation.

An example: A departure takes place on a Friday at 10 a.m. The time slot for the BER Runway can be reserved from the previous Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., to the relevant Friday, 9:00 a.m. (Schengen flight) or 8:30 a.m. (non-Schengen flight). With a slot at 8.15:8.05 a.m., access to the BER runway is possible on the day of departure between 8.25:XNUMX a.m. and XNUMX:XNUMX a.m.
