The power struggle for the position in Vienna is entering the next round: the low-cost carrier would like to stick to the winter flight schedule from VIE despite the nationwide lockdown. At the same time, Ryanair insists on handing out swipes in the direction of Austrian Airlines.

The carrier has not deterred in the past from expressing its opinion publicly about the state support and shooting sharply at the Austrian airline. Now Ryanair is apparently also taking advantage of the moment to step on the feet of the competition from Vienna: “While the AUA continues to collect state aid, it is canceling over 500 December flights at short notice. The Viennese can rely on us, ”says Andreas Gruber, Ryanair.

Because the airline is not taking any flights out of the program despite lockdown and is continuing to maintain its winter flight schedule. “It's been a long year with recurring travel restrictions. The Viennese deserve the chance to visit friends and family or to travel home at Christmas. You cannot rely on the AUA's high fares and the many flight cancellations, but you can rely on Ryanair, ”continued Gruber.
