Austrian Airlines had to cancel a proud 52 of around 360 planned flights on Saturday alone. The reasons for this were a lack of staff and the strike at French air traffic control. Company boss Annette Mann explained just beforehand that one have enough flying employees.
The company would have been literally overwhelmed by many sick leave, especially among flight attendants. These are primarily due to alleged corona infections. This created a personnel bottleneck at Austrian Airlines, which, according to Director General Mann, should not actually exist. The staffing level seems to be strained and even small irregularities can obviously have a significant impact on flight operations.
The result of the many cancellations, which the courier initially reported: Thousands of passengers are stranded in Vienna and at other airports. Those affected report to Aviation.Direct that the topics of replacement transport and rebooking are not running smoothly. There are said to have been long queues at the counters at the home base and there was not always a solution for the passengers. Outside of Vienna, those affected at some airports are said to have been informed that they should contact the Austrian Airlines call center. Unfortunately, nothing can be done on site.
The string concert will obviously continue on Sunday, because numerous AUA flights have already been cancelled. It is not yet clear how many connections will fail during the day. Austrian Airlines told Aviation.Direct in the morning that according to the current state of affairs, 42 connections to/from Vienna will be cancelled. Passengers should therefore regularly check the current status of their booking and contact Austrian Airlines in the event of a cancellation.
