The low-cost airline Wizz Air stationed a sixth Airbus A321neo at Vienna-Schwechat Airport on Tuesday morning. The first flights were also made to Kuwait City and Bilbao.
At the same time, the carrier announced that it would increase frequencies on the routes to Madeira, Nice, Tel Aviv and Yerevan. In addition, Wizz Air is pleased to announce that the company has reached a significant milestone of 7 million passengers having booked flights to and from Vienna Airport. To celebrate this success, the 7 millionth passenger who booked a flight from Vienna to Bilbao was surprised with a Wizz Air voucher worth 200 euros.
“Today is a significant day for Wizz Air as we celebrate the arrival of our sixth Airbus A321neo aircraft at our Vienna base, the opening of two exciting new routes to Bilbao and Kuwait City and the achievement of the incredible milestone of 7 million passengers traveling decided to fly with us from Vienna Airport. We are very excited to expand our operations in Vienna, offering even more options to our Austrian passengers and welcoming travelers on our young and modern aircraft,” said Robert Carey, President of Wizz Air.
Among other things, the company explains that the stationing of the sixth Airbus A321neo, which is also operated by Wizz Air Malta, means that around 350.000 additional seats can be offered per year from Vienna-Schwechat.
“With the base and route expansion, Wizz Air is bringing even more flights to the location. The Basque port city of Bilbao in particular is a popular tourist destination with its impressive architecture and the world-famous Guggenheim Museum. We are very happy about the new routes, the sixth aircraft and congratulations on seven million passengers in Vienna," said Vienna Airport Director Julian Jäger.
