The board of directors of the Verband Internet Reisevertrieb eV, to which major tourism providers belong, warns that the German tourism industry with its roughly three million jobs is at stake due to the Covid-19 pandemic. These should not become those people who do not want to adhere to the "simple rules: distance, mask, hand washing and common sense".

“In the past, tourism has mastered its crises on its own, but now, for the first time, it needs real and comprehensive help from the state. We have to live with this 'New Normal' and adapt our behavior accordingly, ”says association boss Michael Buller, who also points out the extensive hygiene concepts in the industry. "Whether hotel or leisure facility, there are sophisticated and well-thought-out guidelines everywhere that, if adhered to, make travel possible even during the Corona period".

The industry representative also says: “Tourism is an important part of the economy as a whole and not a hobby industry. From the political side, there must not be constant improvements in state aid, but the industry urgently needs comprehensive help, which can reach large and small companies alike ”. It is also pointed out that of the bridging aid announced by the German government in the amount of 24,6 billion euros, only 1,5 billion euros have flowed. This is due to the high hurdles, so that many companies are not even considered.
