The British long-haul airline Virgin Atlantic is considering resuming non-stop flights from London Gatwick. These were discontinued in the previous year due to the corona pandemic and have been dormant since then.
The company confirmed to CH-Aviation.com that they want to fly from Gatwick again if demand increases. The company spokesman did not name a specific date. The Times daily writes, among other things, that Virgin Atlantic intends to fly from the second largest airport in the United Kingdom again in the summer of 2022.
Behind it should also explain that you would otherwise lose the take-off and landing rights in the direction of the United States of America. The carrier stated that the question is not "if" but "when". One is clearly committed to Gatwick, but wants to wait for the further development of the entry and quarantine regulations of the various countries.
The competitor British Airways will have the short- and medium-haul service operated by a new Gatwick subsidiary in the future. According to the current planning status, this should take off in March 2022. Under the name BA Euroflyer Ltd. became the company last week registered in the local commercial register.
