The Spanish low-cost airline Volotea submitted funding applications totaling 70 million euros to the EU Commission's recovery and resilience facility. A total of three projects were presented, which are primarily intended to reduce digitalization and carbon dioxide emissions in aviation.

The pot is filled with 672 billion euros and is intended to push both digitization and climate protection. Furthermore, Covid support services are paid out to EU members from this fund.

Volotea submitted a project that deals with the electrification of short and medium-haul flights. This also specializes in machines with up to 19 seats and, according to the carrier, should also enable the connection of remote regions and islands. The second project deals with digitization in the area of fuel consumption, which should lead to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. Number three relates to electric vehicles in the areas of handling and maintenance.
