So far, the Spanish low-cost airline Volotea has got through the corona crisis without government aid. That is now changing, because a guaranteed loan of 185 million euros has been applied for from the state fund Sepi.

The lowcoster published occupancy figures for 2020, which in view of the values ​​of almost all other European airlines as in Picture book. However, the correctness of the figures published at the time can neither be checked nor refuted.

Financially, Volotea seems to have gone just as well or badly as its competitors. The company took a heavy loss last year and is expecting it to end this year in the red. Slowly but surely, the reserves seem to have been used up, because the Sepi fund set up by the Spanish government for corona aid has applied for a guaranteed loan of 185 million euros.

Whether this support will be approved or not remains to be seen in the next few days or weeks. In contrast to other countries, not only the largest providers, but also smaller ones such as Plus Ultra have received funds from the Sepi fund in Spain.
