The Spanish low-cost airline Volotea is now also considering the Airbus A220 model. This could indirectly act as a successor to the a few weeks agoFleet Boeing 717 act. However, no changes are planned in the short term.

Company boss Carlos Muñoz indicated during an online conference that the A220 could be an option for Volotea in the medium term. In the short term, however, the A319 and A320 will be used. Up to 19 aircraft of the last-named aircraft type are to be floated in, and 15 of them have already been contractually secured. These are exclusively used machines that are obtained from various lessors.

Muñoz assumes that demand will be extremely high in summer 2021 and said that wet lease capacities may be needed again. He pointed out that in the previous year, Volotea recorded high demand, especially within Spain, and was dependent on additional wet lease machines. In the long term, however, they are not thinking of adding larger Airbus A321s.
