The Spanish low-cost airline Vueling is the first European carrier to offer snacks for pets in its in-flight sales. The offer is primarily aimed at dogs and cats that are transported in the cabin.
Many airlines strictly refuse to take pets with them. For example, with Ryanair and Wizz Air you are only allowed to take dogs with you if it is a certified assistance dog that accompanies a person with disabilities due to legal regulations. Airlines are not allowed to charge additional fees for this. For example, blind people even have the legal right to take their guide dog with them free of charge.
For example, Vueling and Eurowings allow non-dangerous pets to be taken along for an additional fee, which is sometimes not particularly low. Whether it has to fly in the cargo hold or in the cabin depends on the size and weight of the four-legged friend.
Until now, the animals had to “starve” on board unless their owners remembered to pack something to eat. Things will be different at Vueling in the future, as the on-board sales now also offer treats for small pets such as dogs and cats. The company claims to be the first carrier in Europe to include offers for animals in its sales catalog.
The four-legged friends are served products from the Belgian company Edgar and Cooper. According to its own information, this delivers pet food that is known for sustainability and natural ingredients. The price is as follows: chicken bars cost 3,50 euros and beef morsels cost 5,50 euros. There is nothing in the program yet for turtles and birds, which Vueling also allows for a fee.
