The Airbus A2 operated by Jet321 with the registration G-SUNB had to make an unscheduled stopover on January 2, 2024 because a passenger died in one of the toilets during the flight.
Fellow passengers told The Mirror newspaper that they contacted the cabin crew because the affected toilet was said to have been occupied for an exceptionally long time. Since no one responded to calls, the flight attendants decided to open the door. First aid measures were immediately initiated, but these were in vain as the male passenger was said to have already died. The cause is still completely unknown.
Under flight number LS918, G-SUNB was on its way from Tenerife South to Manchester. After the tragic incident became known, the captain informed air traffic control. It was then decided that an unscheduled landing would be made at Cork Airport. From there the travelers were then transported to Manchester on another plane. This caused an arrival delay of five hours.
“Flight LS918 from Tenerife to Manchester was diverted to Cork Airport on Tuesday 2 January 2024 due to a passenger requiring medical attention. Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer has unfortunately passed away, despite the efforts of our highly trained crew who intervened as soon as it became known. This was an extremely difficult situation for our crew and we would like to thank them for their efforts. Our thoughts are with the customer’s family and friends during this very difficult time,” Jet2 said in a statement.
