Collective bargaining dispute at Tuifly escalates – Verdi announces warning strikes

Advertising

According to Verdi, the collective bargaining negotiations between the Verdi union and the airline Tuifly for ground and technical areas have failed. The union accuses the employers of refusing constructive offers and even weakening previously made proposals. In response, Verdi has announced the preparation of warning strikes. The potential walkouts would affect approximately 320 employees, particularly in the aircraft technology department.

Although Tuifly does not employ any of its own staff at check-in or ramp service, it does employ the company's technical staff. Verdi plans to announce shortly which airports the warning strikes will take place at. It is reported that Tuifly continues to signal its willingness to talk and is prepared to enter into further negotiations with the union to prevent an escalation of the conflict.

A failure of the negotiations and the announced warning strikes could have significant impacts on Tuifly's flight operations, particularly with regard to maintenance and technical inspections of the aircraft. Travelers may have to expect delays or cancellations, depending on the locations at which the strikes take place. Verdi justifies the escalation with the employers' unwillingness to compromise and the goal of achieving fair working conditions for employees.
