Even the German “advertising master”, whose hobby is to report illegal parking, cannot keep up with a US household: In just one year, he filed 6.852 noise complaints against Washington Ronald Reagan Airport. According to his own information, the “advertising master” only received just over 4.000 entries.

At many airports, residents complain about aircraft noise. Most of the time, the airport was there before the residents moved in and they knew exactly what they were getting into. Comparatively cheap rents and purchase prices seem to have been tempting.

A household that appears to live near Ronald Reagan National Airport is responsible for 78 percent of noise complaints filed, according to statistics from the Institute for Progress. There were a total of 8.760 entries. The two residents of the household in question wrote an impressive 6.852 of them - and that in just one year. The matter has been dragging on for many years, as they have been pursuing their unusual hobby since at least 2014.

Even the German “advertising chief”, who tours Germany in his free time with the Deutschland Ticket and his bicycle to report illegal parking, could not achieve this value. According to his own information, he filed around 4.000 reports last year. Apparently the US authorities do not seem to take the inflationary complaints of the writing-loving household, which is said to live near Washington National Airport, particularly seriously. Otherwise it would be assumed that some measures would have been taken long ago.

It is not uncommon for particularly stubborn opponents of aircraft noise to literally reach into the toilet with their complaints. For example, there was once a particularly active activist in Friedrichshafen who complained about the enormous engine noise of a small aircraft. This is said to have been circling disturbingly over his property for a long time. Ultimately, the investigations by the police and air traffic control show that this cannot be the case, because the “noisy aircraft” in question was a glider that has no engines at all. It is indeed circling, but silently.
