The traditional name WDL is now disappearing from the sky. The owner Zeitfracht gave the airline a new name: German Airways. The callsign and the ICAO code also change: German Eagle and GER.

According to a press release, the name change has meanwhile been completed in the commercial register. WDL is the second oldest airline in Germany and was founded in July 1955. Zeitfracht is of the opinion that the new name should symbolize "high quality standards".

The sister company Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter, which also uses the German Airways brand for a short time, has a less rosy future. LGW was sent into bankruptcy at the beginning of the corona pandemic and is in the process of being liquidated. The unions strongly criticize the approach.
