The KLM management and the pilots union “Five after twelve” were able to reach an agreement on wage cuts. The employee representatives gave their consent, clearing the way for government aid worth billions. The government had previously ordered a stop because this point of the conditions was not met.

The carrier is to receive a total of 3,4 billion euros in the form of state-secured loans. However, the conditions are tough and are linked, among other things, to an austerity package. KLM also has to meet various environmental requirements. Most recently, Finance Minister Wopke Hoekstra even suggested a possible separation from Air France should further help be necessary.
