The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizzair intends to offer around 45 percent of the previous year's capacity from Vienna-Schwechat over the Christmas period. According to a spokesman, there is a significantly higher demand in the upcoming holiday season, which is primarily attributed to trips home to the festival and short vacations.

In general, the situation is currently complicated due to the restrictions, the company admits. Any report about new restrictions and tightening of corona measures would be immediately noticeable in the booking numbers. Around Christmas and New Years, however, there is a significant increase in demand and it is currently assumed that around 45 percent of the previous year's capacity can be carried out.

In an interview with Aviation Direct, Wizzair spokesman András Rado also said that the Hungarian low-cost airline hopes that rapid antigen tests will be established in travel as soon as possible in order to avoid quarantines. “We are for everything that makes travel even safer. Rapid tests before departure are a good interim solution and we hope that antigen results will allow quarantine-free entry into as many countries as possible, ”said the media officer.

The pink low-cost airline also assumes that 2021 will be difficult. Demand won't really pick up until the restrictions come down. "We can see that people want to travel, because we are getting a lot of bookings for the summer months of 2021. From this we deduce that we are looking at both the need and the demand," says Rado. “Since our customers are rather younger, we assume that they will also fly as soon as it is possible again without restrictions. We have an advantage over network carriers because of our point-to-point business model. We therefore assume that we will be able to offer the full program again much faster than other airlines. "

When asked about the recently launched charter flights, Rado said: “We are currently doing corporate charter on behalf of companies. We also fly sports teams from time to time. This is new to us because we weren't in the charter business before. For us that is very good in the current situation, because we can fly more and our crews get more flying hours. In the long term, however, we do not want to enter the tourist charter business. "
