The Dutch airline KLM has again had to cancel numerous flights in recent days due to staff shortages. Last weekend there were around 50 connections in Amsterdam-Schiphol.

But not only KLM itself has too few employees, but also the airport and local service providers. At the beginning of May 2022, the largest airport in the Netherlands even asked the airlines to reduce the number of their flights. Recently, the extent of the cancellations was less than at the beginning of this month, but the big wave of travel with the start of the summer holidays is still to come.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is now trying to control the number of passengers with the help of a kind of traffic light system. On the Internet and via apps, passengers are informed about how much is going on. If necessary, travelers should come to the airport earlier. But that doesn't solve the problems you have at the airport.

Local media raise at least not entirely unjustified doubts that the really big chaos could break out in the summer holidays of 2022. It is considered unlikely that the airport, airlines and service providers will be able to hire and train additional staff so quickly. Jobs in the aviation industry are currently considered to be in low demand - also due to the actions taken by many employers during the corona pandemic.
