The airline Austrian Airlines reactivated the non-stop connection to Los Angeles on Friday. This will initially be served five times a week. On the occasion of the comeback flight, AUA-CCO Michael Trestl and Flughafen Wien board member Julian Jäger welcomed the passengers at the gate.

The Austrian Lufthansa subsidiary has introduced a new operating concept together with the airport. For passengers, this means in concrete terms that North American flights operated by Austrian Airlines will now depart and arrive at the D gates. Michael Trestl explained to Aviation.Direct that other non-Schengen destinations also depart and arrive from area D, which is assigned to Terminal 2. “Together with Vienna Airport, we have developed a new operating concept that optimizes the use of the passenger boarding bridges. We want to minimize bus boarding, which is unpopular with many passengers,” says the AUA-CCO. A path was created that, among other things, connects the non-Schengen zones G and D with each other. However, when changing from Schengen (C or F) to non-Schengen D, the path is still a bit more complicated. At least: The passport control in front of the D-Gates now "works" in both directions, so that you save long detours on a trip to the Vienna Lounge. Incidentally, there is neither a lounge nor smoking zones in the area of the D gates. Those that were formerly there have been dismantled.

“The time to take off has come. After two years of corona-related travel restrictions, we are starting an already well-booked summer with the entire fleet, a dense European route network and attractive overseas connections with increased frequencies," says Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl. In the intercontinental area, the focus is particularly on the American market, which also plays an important role for tourism in Austria and Vienna. In addition to the six weekly connections between Vienna and Los Angeles, there will also be daily flights to and from Chicago and Washington during the summer peak. Newark and JFK airports in New York will also be served daily again, namely in the mornings and evenings. Austrian Airlines thus offers more than 30 weekly connections from Vienna to the USA.
