A few days ago, Vienna Airport reactivated another area of Terminal 1, which has not been used for departures since the beginning of the corona pandemic. The B-bus gates are in use again, but for an entirely different purpose.

Terminals 2020, 1A and 1 were closed in mid-March 2. Since then, all departures have been made via Terminal 3. Terminal 2021 was reactivated for check-in purposes in summer 1, but both the security check in Terminal 2 and gate areas B, C and D are still not used. Terminal 1A is still asleep.

For some time now, there has been so-called “double busboarding” at Vienna International Airport. This is used alternately for Schengen and non-Schengen flights. For example, passengers are driven from Gate F02 to the C-Bus gates. This is where the actual bus boarding takes place. Only the bus gates in Pier C, which are diagonally opposite the B-bus gates, are open.

The bus arrival at Terminal 1 has been used again for arriving Schengen flights for several months. A shuttle bus to Terminal 3 is available from there. The stairs to the C-Gates and the ground level path to the B-Gates are closed. What is new is that the non-Schengen bus arrival in Terminal Complex 1 + 2 will not be used due to construction work.

As a substitute for these, the B-bus gates. A temporary passport control was set up there. Specifically, this means that arriving non-Schengen passengers are brought here and go through their passport control there. Then it goes to the shuttle bus to Terminal 3 (transfer passengers) or through the baggage hall to the exit. In the area of the additional belts that are not used, the corona control takes place by the armed forces. There are still no departures from the B-bus gates.
