Palma de Mallorca, Pristina and Salzburg will be continued permanently. In Vienna one seeks dialogue with the social partners.

While the Eurowings Europe base in Palma de Mallorca is back in the air and Salzburg has also been reactivated, the future in Vienna is not yet very clear. The reason for this is that the route network from Vienna was abandoned and the remaining routes are served by Eurowings Germany from the Federal Republic of Germany.

Eurowings Europe was actually supposed to fly with up to six Airbus jets on behalf of the sister company Austrian Airlines, but the corona pandemic is likely to have thrown the bill. The AUA definitely has no need for wet-lease aircraft at the moment, because due to the current situation, the Lufthansa subsidiary cannot use all the machines in its own fleet.

The staff at the Eurowings Europe base in Vienna is on short-time work. According to a spokesman, how things will continue in the long term is currently being evaluated with the social partners. In any case, the Pristina base is to be reactivated in the course of the summer. In the future, Eurowings Europe is to fly exclusively under the Eurowings brand, which in a way indicates that the AUA wet lease cannot be reactivated.

A media officer from Eurowings explained: “Eurowings Europe has now taken off again - for example, we have reactivated our crews in Mallorca against the background of increasing interest in sun destinations. In addition, there are now numerous connections from Vienna to Cologne / Bonn, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Stuttgart in the flight program. The Salzburg and Pristina locations will also follow in July. It is flown under the Eurowings brand. We are in talks with our employees and the social partners in order to fundamentally position and secure the future of Eurowings Europe. "
