The low-cost airline Ryanair is reacting to the temporary suspension of the Austrian Airlines route Vienna-Bologna and soliciting passengers with special "rescue tariffs". From December 16, 2021, Italy will also require those who have been vaccinated and recovered to submit a negative corona test. Unvaccinated people are quarantined for five days.
The airlines Austrian Airlines and Wizz Air have added further cuts to the connections from Vienna-Schwechat in their reservation system in the last few days. At the Lufthansa subsidiary, among other things, the routes Leipzig / Nuremberg, Bologna and Zaporizhia temporarily paused. In the case of the pink low-cost airline, the extent of the deletions is considerably greater, because the network is paused in the first quarter of 2022 over 200 other routes in addition to those who are already temporarily suspended.
In a press release, Ryanair does not spare its criticism of its competitor Austrian Airlines and once again boasts that it will be serving 57 routes from Vienna-Schwechat in this winter flight schedule. The vast majority of routes are flown with the Airbus A320 from the Maltese subsidiary Lauda Europe. The Polish sister company Buzz also has a base in Vienna and is currently looking for flight personnel.
Andreas Gruber, Ryanair, explains: “AUA customers who are stranded due to the cancellation of the AUA route from Vienna to Bologna can switch to Ryanair and now enjoy the cheapest tariffs and the most reliable service. We have introduced rescue tariffs at a price of € 19,99 to support customers who are affected by AUA's suspension of this route. While the Lufthansa Group and its subsidiaries AUA and Eurowings continue to cancel routes, cut capacities, reduce air traffic and cut jobs, Ryanair offers the full flight schedule to and from Vienna in the winter months so that Austrian citizens can return home at Christmas or over the winter Friends and family can travel. Viennese customers can fly from Vienna to Bologna four times a week at rescue rates from € 19,99. These rescue fares are available now through Wednesday December 22nd at midnight and only on the Ryanair.com website. Since these astonishingly low tariffs will sell out quickly, customers should book today so as not to miss anything. "
