Construction is underway again at Vienna-Schwechat Airport: the groundbreaking ceremony for the SkyLog-Park of the logistics company DLH took place on Thursday. Five warehouse and industrial light halls will be built on an area of around 45.000 square meters by the end of the year.
The new buildings are being built on the edge of the airport area near Fischamend and are to be made especially usable for air freight logistics providers. The respective proximity to the airport and the A4 motorway should offer a competitive advantage, because reloading from aircraft to truck and vice versa should be carried out quickly.
“Today's groundbreaking ceremony for DLH is a harbinger of the economic comeback in Lower Austria after the COVI-19 crisis. I am very pleased that DLH has decided to invest in Lower Austria and to build a state-of-the-art logistics center here in the airport region. We notice that a large number of investments are currently being made throughout Lower Austria that are creating new jobs. Our business agency alone supported 39 projects with over 600 new or secured jobs in the first four months of this year. At the same time, the current vaccine turbo is the best stimulus for the economy. The faster a large part of the population is vaccinated, the faster the economy will grow. We are currently well on the way here, ”emphasizes Jochen Danninger, Member of the State for Economic Affairs.
“We are very pleased that we were able to acquire this property from Vienna Airport. Due to the excellent location and the modern and sustainable construction we have planned, we are firmly convinced of the success of the concept. This is documented by the fact that Swissport has already rented two halls for the first time, ”says Christian Vogt, Managing Director of DLH Austria.
“We are pleased that DLH is expanding its logistics activities in the airport region. Especially in the Covid 19 crisis, this is an important growth signal that creates added value and jobs. Here in the airport region, companies find optimal conditions for their business location with growth opportunities, a comprehensive local supply and transport infrastructure as well as an efficient connection to international markets due to the proximity to the airport and the motorway, ”explains Günther Ofner, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.
