At the beginning of 2021, Flughafen Wien AG closed all smoking chambers in some of the terminals that are currently open. This ended on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, because the “smoking caves” are open again.

For many years there has been a general smoking ban at Vienna Airport. The only exceptions are specially marked areas, which are colloquially known as the “smoking chamber”. These were in February 2021 due to the tightened corona measures of the federal government temporarily closedso that smoking was absolutely prohibited in Terminal 3. The change was of no significance for the other terminal buildings, as these are not used anyway.

Unfortunately, the temporary closure also had an unpleasant result for non-smokers, because militant smokers just switched to the toilet facilities. The now reopened "smoking chambers" are clearly marked.
