The airline Swiss plans to offer a total of 2021 destinations from Zurich and Geneva in the winter flight schedule 22/90. From western Switzerland, the long-haul connection to New York is expected to be reactivated in mid-December 2021.

Initially, Swiss only wants to fly back to the United States of America from Geneva on “selected days”. In general, the capacity offered in the winter flight schedule 2021/22 should be around 50 percent of the 2019 offer. The carrier plans to temporarily increase capacity around the Christmas holidays.

“We have geared our flight plan for the winter so that it offers our passengers the greatest possible number of connections and connection options as well as a stable, reliable network. Out of a total of 92 aircraft in the Swiss fleet, up to 47 short-haul aircraft plus four aircraft from wet lease partner Helvetic Airways will be used with the winter flight schedule. Swiss uses 22 aircraft on long-haul flights, ”explains Tamur Goudarzi Pour, Swiss Chief Commercial Officer.

In a media statement, the Lufthansa subsidiary emphasizes that the destinations will return to the level of 2019. 81 destinations are available from Zurich and 26 from Geneva.

The most frequent short-haul destinations from Zurich include Berlin, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Lisbon, London, Málaga, Stockholm and various destinations in Eastern Europe such as Kiev and Belgrade. In the long-haul sector, the focus is on the metropolises of Chicago, Miami, New York, Sao Paulo, Dubai, Johannesburg and Tel Aviv, among others. Part of the winter offer are various classic summer destinations, which this year will also be offered over the winter. These include Alicante, Malta, Marseille, Palermo and Thessaloniki. Sarajevo and Tallinn will also continue to fly to in winter. This also includes the Albanian capital Tirana, which Swiss took over from its sister company Edelweiss Air in the summer.

26 destinations from Geneva

From Geneva, 25 routes within Europe as well as one long-haul connection are to be served. The destinations with the most flights from Geneva include Athens, Lisbon and Porto. A special focus for Swiss from Geneva is the winter sports season. In winter, Swiss will offer an extensive flight program, especially for passengers from Great Britain and Scandinavia.

The carrier is also planning to resume long-haul connections to New York on selected days from mid-December. From December 14, up to four weekly flights to the Big Apple are planned from Geneva. There is a new non-stop flight to Copenhagen. Madeira, Sharm El-Sheikh and Tenerife are also offered in winter this year.
