After Swiss, Wizz Air is the second European airline to make vaccination against Covid-19 mandatory. This comes into force on December 1, 2021 and initially affects flight personnel. However, the low-cost airline grants the exception that “in special cases, regular antigen / PCR tests” are accepted as an alternative.

“At Wizz Air, the health and safety of our passengers and employees is our top priority. We are responsible for protecting the crew and passengers on board by reducing the risks of COVID-19, and vaccines play an important role in this, ”explains CEO Jozsef Varadi.

The airline did not define what “special cases” are in its media statement. However, it can be assumed that this is a kind of legal protection, because Wizz Air has bases in many countries. The legal situation regarding an employer's obligation to vaccinate differs from country to country. At the same time, Wizz Air suffers from an acute shortage of flight attendants, so that it apparently does not want to exacerbate this any further.
