At least two Wizz Air Malta aircraft are to be stationed at Maltese Luqa Airport. The carrier would thus be in direct competition with the Ryanair subsidiary Malta Air, which has had a base at the airport in the Republic of Malta for several years.

The Wizz Air Group originally announced that the new base would open in October 2023. Initially, two Airbus A321neo aircraft are to be stationed. However, the industry portal Mavio News was able to find out that the start-up of the Luqa base will be postponed indefinitely. It can at least be assumed that the originally communicated date will not be kept.
