The presence at the Albanian airport Kukes does not seem to be crowned by great demand for the low-cost airline Wizz Air, because the carrier will pause all destinations from this airport in the winter flight schedule 2022/23 according to the current information.

At first it was said that Memmingen-Kukes should be offered continuously and that there should only be a few weeks break from Vienna, Basel and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden. A spokeswoman for Wizz Air told Aviation.Direct just a few days ago. In the meantime, however, the Hungarian low-cost airline has extended the "flight break" with "Open End" over the entire winter timetable period 2022/23.

Kukes is a young airport in Albania, which is near the border with Kosovo. Those responsible hope that VFR traffic can be established as a cheap alternative to Pristina. However, Wizz Air recently admitted that demand is below expectations. However, a media officer emphasized to Aviation.Direct that these should be temporary suspensions and that Kukes will continue to be kept in the route network.

Subject to further changes, Wizz Air will provisionally fly to the Albanian airport for the last time from Vienna on September 18, 2022. The Basel route was put on an indefinite break the day before. Kukes will be served from Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden until September 28, 2022. From Memmingen, this airport is still in the program until October 28, 2022. Whether and when the four Kukes routes will be reactivated is currently still open. In any case, Wizz Air emphasizes that these should not be permanent settings.
