The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizzair always announces new routes and increases from Vienna-Schwechat, but the carrier is silent about cancellations, reductions and route abandonments. The offer from Vienna has been greatly thinned out in the past few weeks. At the same time, many targets for resumption have been announced, including many "candidates" that appear unlikely to start in December 2020 due to mutual entry and quarantine regulations.

In November 2020, Wizzair will offer a veritable minimal program from Vienna-Schwechat. The flight schedule only includes Tirana, Dortmund, Cologne / Bonn, Billund, Bremen, Athens, Brindisi, Catania, Milan-Malpensa, Naples, Rome-FCO, Pristina, Eindhoven, Barcelona, Tenerife, Kiev and Málaga. As can be seen from the table below, many of the goals mentioned are currently not being served and should be resumed in November. Due to the generally poor demand situation due to the entry and quarantine regulations, there are several "wobbly candidates" on the list. The holiday destination Eilat in southern Israel was completely out of the flight schedule.

The enormous cuts that Wizzair has made “quietly and secretly” are in stark contrast to the statements made by company boss Jozsef Varadi that things would go well in Vienna. The discontinuation of many of the former racetracks rather shows that the low-cost airline Wizzair cannot fill the machines even with single-digit ticket prices. Only a few routes should actually run well under the circumstances, otherwise Wizzair would have long since discontinued them. Also noticeable are the frequent discount campaigns that the Hungarian aviation company carries out several times a week, subjectively.

The massive cuts that Wizzair has made in Vienna are by no means surprising. They merely reflect the currently extremely difficult market situation for all airlines. Demand from competitors such as Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Ryanair and Easyjet is also extremely weak. The industry is therefore pushing for uniform travel guidelines in the EU and corona rapid tests before every departure in order to be able to abolish quarantine regulations. If these should come, it is not possible to predict whether the demand will pick up again. In any case, the industry is facing an ice-cold winter.
